RE: Anybody Going Truck Shopping Today (8/30/08)?

Unless they've leveled out the road up to Lea Hill & GRCC, you want that Cummins. (I was raised in Orting and went to GRCC and spent 2 years with the Fire Co. on 112 and 312 in the 60's) They haven't, I think they even made it steeper! That is powder puff compared to the 10% grade that gets me to the plateau I live on :)

RE: 1 ton dodge diesel with axel ratio of 3.73

Dang, if you have not done it then maybe you should not post about it. I sometimes gross 26K lbs with a 7.3PSD/6sp manual and 3.73 rear without any problems. Most of the time I use OD and on a longer hill I'll have to shift to direct part of the way up to keep it above 65mph. I have a tuner for this truck but have never needed the extra power so have never installed the program. On longer pulls you may want to keep it out of OD more for the extra rpm's for cooling. Dude....

RE: Chip Set

like Paul said, you will get both sides on that one. If you are having power issues and want more, sure, go for it, but utilize it correctly by not drag racing it and ease into the pedal. The rest of the truck will thank you for it and you won't have to worry about your drivetrain warranty because you won't hurt anything. I do it with nil problem. Most of the time I forget to actually use the darn thing and leave it on stock setting anyways. There are plenty of guys that say you can get better mileage, but I am not one of them, as a matter of fact, I haven't noticed a difference one way or another except having more power.

RE: Anybody Going Truck Shopping Today (8/30/08)?

I would love to, it is great fun for me but I just can't see letting go of the one I have. It has been too good to me. I just got back from the coastal excursion for a week and just never get tired of how well this thing actually tows. I gotta be honest though, every time I get a close look at the new F-450's I become weaker. How does a guy fight that?

RE: My first Diesel - Newbee Question

Welcome to the "real" truck club. 8 lugs is the answer and to add the angels are singing while towing. :)

RE: Grease Fitting Dilema: Dodge 4X4

I love changing U-joints. It is like a fine art if done properly. :) I hope mine starts to wear out soon!

RE: 1 ton dodge diesel with axel ratio of 3.73

Dang, I don't know about all that "no problem" stuff. It isn't really a strength issue as mush as it is a pulling issue. I have no problems at all with 3.73 gears and 10k, but I don't know if I could honestly put another 5k and not notice a serious difference. In any case, it is worth a shot. You can always make the change later. Are you DRW? If not, you are up there in the weights as it is. Of course, we are talking about a Cummins powered Ram aren't we? :)

RE: Dodge 3500 cab & chassis

Heck, I would be interested in converting my current SRW CTD to a flatbed. Is this feasable? We have a place called the "Fab Shop" close to home that specializes in those kinds of things. I wonder if it would be more affordable to just have them convert it versus buying an entirely new DRW pickup. Anyone seen SRW flatbeds? Some of those boxes come with NICE storage options and I would hate to get rid of my barely broke in Cummins. It has served me well.

RE: Direct TV setup

Try holding down the info button on the remote for about 5 sec...that should bring you to the setup screen... Bingo! I already had the dish set right from the Direct TV dish pointer site, however, my main hangup was getting the reciver back to setup to recognize my round dish vs. my home mounted dish. All I had to do was the info button and put in the sat type and zip and we're in business. Thanks! I am feeling kind of lucky on having that dish pointed in the right area, better buy a lotto ticket.

Direct TV setup

Well, I went to hook up my sat. dish after getting everything else setup and found that my receiver is not allowing me to get anything out of setup other than signal meters. I cannot navigate to a menu allowing me to change the zip, it just wants 134 azimuth and 32 elevation (which is the setting from my home) I also cannot find anywhere on the net that will give me the proper settings on the internet even after searching through the forums. I am in Ocean City, WA, 98569. I have a Direct TV H21-200 HD reciever (I know I won't get the HD channels) but I should be able to get the regular ones. So I have tried the red-button reset and all that, removing the access card and such, any ideas as to where to point the darn dish? It is just a single LNB Winegard dish. I have tried using all the pointer sites I can find.

RE: Diesel fuel prices coming down !!

Come on 8.1... I know you are just itching to post your latest link to Flying J in NJ. :) Along with a typical "Demise of the diesel" post.

RE: CarMax Warranty on 2005 RAM 3500 CTD

You should have the 5/100 power train warranty also (depending on in-service date for expiration) and that is where the real expensive stuff happens anyways. As far as your question about 1700.00, I can honestly say I have not paid the dealer or any other shop 1 penny for something that was broken, as a matter of fact, other than the lifetime LOF that brings me back every 3000, my truck has only been in there once in 50k miles (to have the tire size entered in the PCM after going bigger)

RE: New Tow Vehicle-What a great piece of machinery!

That is exactly why I bought my QC shortbed. It fits in the garage. Too bad I never actually park it in there! Welcome to the club, and now you can purchase "8-lug Diesel" magazine :)

RE: My first beef with the dodge ram

Driveshafts come out so easy anyways.. But I haven't greased mine in 50k, I doubt my dealer has either. Life goes on. :)

RE: Ford PSD or GMC Duramax which one?

My bad on the Dodge. Maybe just really hard to find a used one. I have a 1500 QuadCab. I love Dodges but my wife said "NO DODGES". And since she's given the OK for $15000 - $20000 I think I'd rather use my chips to push the milage down and the cost up. I'll take another look. In that price range, you are going to be looking around at 03 and older. Your wife? Dude... It is easier to beg for forgiveness than get permission. Just go buy what you want and bring it home. I did it, trust me, then it is what YOU want in a truck. No Dodge's huh? Oh well, you don't know what you are missing. I owned a 2001 F-350 Crew-Cab long bed. 7.3 diesel. if I was in your price range, it is what I would get.

RE: Titan towing capacity

All the makers have operations in Mexico and Canada. Who cares? Even my Japanese, made in America Honda Accord has mexican parts all over it. Where it is made means zilch anymore, just buy what you like and don't let anybody here tell you one is any better than the other. I have seen more than one Armada towing fivers larger than mine and looking good doing it. Doesn't mean I would, but if I thought it was right, I would replace my Ram with a Titan in a second. If it came with a Cummins Turbo Diesel I would have done it yesterday! Love the Nissan Titan/Armada rigs.

RE: What happened to diesel prices

I just can't see how it would come down .60 in a day and gas not budge. It literally leveled out, just like that. According to an un-named Chevy Van owner, diesel was NEVER going to be as low as gas again. It was also never going to come down in price period :) He bases a good number of his posts on the very topic. Show me a link to were diesel is cheaper than reg unleaded gas . Diesel is much higher in every Flying J in the US. In Oklahoma City reg unl gas is $3.339 and diesel is $3.999. I could careless how much it is at flying J, in NJ or OK, the only place I care about is right here. As you can read, prices are all over the place. Heck, as far as I know, the station screwed up and it will be 4.40 tomorrow, but that is what I pais for it and the other members in this area might want to know.

Look psd, I never said it was cheaper, but at the safeway 4 miles from my house it is 7 cents more, pretty close to me considering your doom and gloom diesel posts have it "never" being cheaper than gas again. Considering the same place had it at 60 cents more the day prior I would say progress is there.
